Liverpool’s Kolo Toure: I’m not surprised to see Reds top of table
Liverpool centre-half Kolo Toure is not surprised by the Merseyside outfit's impressive start to the season
Kolo Toure insists he is not surprised by Liverpool’s winning start to the Premier League season.
The Reds have notched up three successive 1-0 victories over Stoke City, Aston Villa and Manchester United, leaving Brendan Rodgers’ men top of the table.
And Toure, who moved to Anfield on a free transfer this summer, is satisfied to see Liverpool’s hard work pay dividends in the early stages of the campaign.
“[Looking at the table] motivates us to do more,” Toure told Liverpool’s website. “I’m not surprised because of the effort we put in during pre-season and the commitment of the players every day in training.
“We’ve been working so hard and everybody is really focused – the young players and the experienced players.
“The manager is doing a great job, all the staff are working really hard. We need to carry on doing that and the results will come.”
Toure was forced to sit out Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over reigning Premier League champions due to a groin injury.
And the Ivory Coast international was impressed by Martin Skrtel’s performance against the Red Devils.
Toure added: “The lads played a great game. I was off the pitch and really wanted to help them, but I couldn’t.
“Skrtel had a fantastic game and we worked as a team really, really well. That is great for the team spirit of the group.”
