Liverpool’s Luis Suárez can fire Reds to top-four finish, says John Aldridge
Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge believes Luis Suárez's goals can help fire the Reds into the Premier League's top four
John Aldridge is optimistic Luis Suárez’s goals can help fire Liverpool to a top-four finish this season.
The Reds fended off interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and nine-time European champions Real Madrid over the course of the summer transfer window despite the striker’s desire to leave Anfield.
With Brendan Rodgers bringing eight news faces into the club during the off season, former Reds striker Aldridge feels the Merseyside outfit are well-equipped to launch a serious top-four challenge this season.
“Just as important as the transfers we completed was ensuring we kept hold of Luis Suárez,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“I’ve said before how brilliantly the club have handled the Suárez saga this summer and it was strong leadership to tell him he was going nowhere.
“Thankfully, it looks like he has accepted Liverpool’s stance and is knuckling down. Even if Suárez only gives us one more season hopefully his goals will help ensure we get back into the Champions League.
“With Suárez only two games away from completing his suspension, things are looking very promising as we will be an even better team with him in it.”
Suárez, who is currently serving a 10-game ban, scored 23 Premier League goals in the 2012/13 campaign.
