Man City confirm Martin Demichelis sidelined for six weeks
Manchester City confirm Martin Demichelis will spend up to six weeks on the sidelines with knee ligament damage
Martin Demichelis has been ruled out-of-action for six weeks after suffering knee ligament damage, Manchester City have confirmed.
The 32-year-old picked up the injury in first-team training a matter of days after the former Argentina international joined the Citizens on a free transfer from Atletico Madrid.
Demichelis had previously worked with City manager Manuel Pellegrini at Malaga, but the Chilean, who is already without Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards, suffered an injury blow on Friday.
A City statement read: “A knee injury sustained in training is set to keep new arrival Martin Demichelis out for around six weeks.
“The club doctor confirmed a scan last night revealed ligament damage to the defender’s right knee, but that surgery is not required. The 32-year-old Argentine international joined the Blues over the weekend after finalising a move from Atletico Madrid.
“Defensive injuries have been a big concern for Manuel Pellegrini so far this season, with Vincent Kompany still side-lined and Micah Richards out of action.”
City have won two of their three Premier League games with Spain international Javi Garcia filling in as a makeshift centre-half alongside Joleon Lescott in the absence of Kompany.
