Man City transfers: AC Milan midfielder Stephan El Shaarawy reveals the Citizens and Real Madrid were interested this summer
Stephan El Shaarawy has revealed Manchester City and Real Madrid both wanted to sign the AC Milan midfielder this summer.
The 20-year-old was a reported target for Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini, with City said to be ready to make a move after Massimiliano Allegri omitted El Shaarawy from his side for Milan’s Serie A opener.
However, the Italy international stressed he was always happy to stay at the seven-time European champions and fight for his first-team place despite tempting offers from the Premier League and Spain.
“I was very happy that Manchester City and Real Madrid wanted to sign me, but I want to stay where I am,” El Shaarawy told Four Four Two.
“I am a Milan fan and Milan is my home. This is a big club that aims very high, and I feel like I am a part of it now.”
El Shaarawy also believes former City striker Mario Balotelli is helping to bring out the best in the Italian playmaker.
“I actually think he makes me better. We play well together, we pass the ball to each other — we have great chemistry,” he added.
El Shaarawy, who joined Milan from Padova in 2011, has scored 24 goals in 78 appearances in all competitions for I Rosoneri.
