Man City’s Manuel Pellegrini delivers David Silva injury update
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini says Spanish midfielder David Silva should be fit for next week's Champions League tie
Manuel Pellegrini says Manchester City midfielder David Silva should be fit for the club’s Champions League tie against Bayern Munich next week.
The 27-year-old has been sidelined for the past month with a groin injury after the former Valencia man picked up the problem whilst on international duty with Spain.
As a result, Silva missed City’s 3-0 triumph at Viktoria Plzen and an emphatic 4-1 derby win against Manchester United at Etihad Stadium on Saturday.
Pellegrini believes the Spaniard will struggle to be fit for this weekend’s clash against Aston Villa, but the Chilean expects the playmaker to be available for their next European tie.
“We will see the next day what happens with David ,” said Pellegrini.
“The doctor can say better than me what will happen. I don’t think he can play on Saturday but maybe for the next game of the Champions League, I think he could be fit.”
On City’s 5-0 victory over Wigan Athletic in the League Cup on Tuesday, Pellegrini added: “I spoke with the players before we started the game, telling them we must always try to play the same way.
“We can change names but for me it was very important to see the same team we saw last Sunday, the same philosophy of football and the same high performance.”
