Man United 1 West Brom 2: I expected to win after Rooney goal, says Moyes
Man United 1 West Brom 2: David Moyes admits he expected the Red Devils to go on and win after Wayne Rooney's leveller
David Moyes criticised Manchester United’s defending in the second half after West Bromwich Albion were shock winners at Old Trafford.
Morgan Amalfitano opened the scoring in the 54th minute before Red Devils striker Wayne Rooney levelled proceedings as Robin van Persie and Marouane Fellaini both came off the bench.
However, the reigning champions failed to kick on and the Baggies secured their first win at Old Trafford since 1978 when Saido Berahino scored a 67th-minute winner.
It means United are now 12th in the Premier League following their third defeat in six games, and Moyes urged his squad to respond to their latest setback.
“We didn’t defend well in the second half but, when we got back in, I expected us to win it with the talent we have got,” Moyes told BBC Sport.
“No worries about the crowd because it was great. The stadium in mid-week was in great voice. People come here expecting us to play well but we didn’t play well. We tried to pick it up in the second half but we got done by it as well.
“You’re always going to have bad results. It is how you deal with them. There are lots of games to come and it’s about how you deal with them, so we look forward to them.”
