Man United transfers: Former Red Devils assistant Mike Phelan says Athletic Bilbao's Ander Herrera "makes things happen"

Mike Phelan says Manchester United target Ander Herrera “makes things happen” as the Red Devils reportedly step up their interest in the Athletic Bilbao midfielder.
The defending Premier League champions are believed to be weighing up a bid in the region of £30m for the Spanish playmaker after missing out on Cesc Fàbregas and Thiago Alcantara earlier this summer.
Herrera, who particularly impressed against the Red Devils in the Europa League knockout stage in 2012, has scored two goals in 61 appearances for Bilbao following his move to the Basque outfit from Real Zaragoza in 2011.
And former United assistant Phelan spoke highly of the Spain Under-23 international.
“He’s obviously a dynamic midfield player,” Phelan told BBC Sport.
“The way he plays the game, he’s more of a link player, he makes things happen as far as keeping the continuity going. At Bilbao he was quite the fulcrum of the operation.
“He’s obviously come on the radar, for specific reasons that Moyes is looking for.
“Obviously, he did put a couple of good performances in against Manchester United in Europe, so he would be on the radar from that point of view.”
