Man United transfers: Shinji Kagawa will get a chance, says David Moyes
Man United transfers: David Moyes insists Shinji Kagawa will get a chance to impress in the coming weeks amid Dortmund interest
David Moyes has insisted Shinji Kagawa is still part of his plans at Manchester United.
The Japan international is yet to feature for the Red Devils in the Premier League this season after a busy summer competing at the Confederations Cup in Brazil.
Borussia Dortmund had made an enquiry about the availability of their former midfielder amid growing uncertainty over Kagawa’s future at Old Trafford.
However, Moyes is adamant Kagawa – as well as Wilfried Zaha – will be given a chance to impress over the next couple of games.
“I’ve not had a chance to look at other things,” said Moyes. “I’ve had to stick to the same group of players and go with it.
“Shinji came back late and that was the biggest problem for him. We had to give him a week off after he came back to play for us in Japan as well.
“Wilf is still getting to know this level so we’re happy with what we’ve got. I hope to use them as we go along. Hernandez has trained in the last few days and could be fit [for Sunday]. He doesn’t feel his hamstring now and is getting there. He’s just lacking game practice.”
On Friday, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc confirmed United had rejected an approach from the Champions League runners-up for Kagawa.
“After the departure of Mario Götze was certain, of course, our first idea was to assess how things stand in the case Shinji Kagawa,” Zorc is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.
“Shinji has always said that he would someday return to Dortmund, but after a call, it was clear that neither the player nor Manchester United were interested in an exchange at this time.”
