Manchester United defender Jonny Evans heaps praise on striker Javier Hernández after the Mexican's League Cup winner
Jonny Evans has heaped praise on Manchester United striker Javier Hernández after the Mexican’s winner against Liverpool in the League Cup on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old has been out-of-favour under new manager David Moyes as Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Danny Welbeck have been favoured in the forward positions.
However, Hernández sent Moyes a timely reminder of his qualities with a 46th-minute winner in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool at Old Trafford.
And Evans talked up the Mexico international ahead of their West Bromwich Albion clash this weekend.
“We see it every day in training,” Evans said.
“You always have to be aware of him. He only takes a yard to get a goal.
“That is the type of lad he is. Against Stoke a couple of years ago he scored a goal with the back of his head.
“He loves scoring goals.”
Evans was also philosophical about United’s 4-1 derby loss to Manchester City at Etihad Stadium last Sunday.
“I have been on the training ground where the atmosphere has been worse than it was when we came in the day after the game,” he added.
“We had no complaints at the weekend.
“Everyone was honest in their assessment that we didn’t apply ourselves the way we should have.
“It is hard for the fans, the players and the manager as well. We just had to move on from it quickly.”
