‘Man City’s Dzeko up there with Falcao and Lewandowski’
Stoke City goalkeeper Asmir Begovic says Edin Dzeko is among the best three number nines in world football
Asmir Begovic says he rates Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko alongside Borussia Dortmund’s Roberto Lewandowski and Monaco’s Radamel Falcao.
The Bosnia-Herzegovina striker scored his first Premier League goal of the season in a 3-2 loss to Cardiff City in August as he aims to impress new Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini.
Dortmund’s Lewandowski has scored 46 goals in the past two seasons, whilst Falcao netted 52 times in 67 La Liga games for Atletico Madrid before moving to Ligue 1 this summer.
Dzeko managed a rather modest 28 league goals between in 2011/12 and 2012/13, but Stoke City goalkeeper Begovic still rates his compatriot as one of the best number nines in world football.
“In my opinion he is one the three best number nines in the world along with Falcao and Robert Lewandowski, so he is somebody that we have certainly got to keep our eye on during the game,” Begovic said ahead of Stoke’s trip to City on Saturday.
“He scored against me last time at the Etihad Stadium, but he was due one in that game because I have made a few saves against him over the years.
Hopefully I can keep him out again this weekend.”
Meanwhile, Begovic admitted Stoke’s summer signing Marko Arnautovic is a very exciting talent after the Austrian moved to the Potters in a £2m deal this summer.
“He is a very, very exciting player and somebody I know quite a lot about having watched a lot of German football over the last couple of years,”
“If we can get the best out of him then he will be an absolutely massive signing for us, because he possesses abilities that a lot of other players wish they had.
“I remember him at Twente in Holland where he really burst on to the scene and then at Inter Milan. The fact that Jose Mourinho took him there tells you what sort of player he is.”
