Manchester United's Michael Carrick says Marouane Fellaini has a "real presence" after the Belgian made his full debut on Tuesday
Michael Carrick has hailed Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini as a “real presence” after the Beglian made his full Red Devils debut on Tuesday night.
The 25-year-old started the club’s 4-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen after making a substitute appearance in a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Carrick was impressed by Fellaini’s performance against the Bundesliga outfit, adding the £27.5m signing will provide another option for David Moyes.
“It was good to play with him. He’s a real presence in there,” Carrick told MUTV.
“You could see tonight that he’s such a dominant player and he gives us something that we haven’t had and that’s exactly what you want – options in the squad.
“Sometimes you want to play different ways and he gives us that option. There’s no point in having similar players. He’s fitted in well and settled in great. He’s a top player and we want as many of those that we can get.”
Wayne Rooney gave United the lead after scoring his 200th goal for the club before Robin van Persie restored his side’s advantage after Simon Rolfes levelled.
Rooney added his second of the night before Omer Toprak’s scored a late second for the visitors and Antonio Valencia capped off the victory.
“Tonight gives us a lot of confidence going into Sunday. As a package it was a polished all-round performance,” added Carrick.
“We’ve had a stop-start beginning to the season and people have been asking questions as normal. Tonight we got a good performance and result. We really meant business, we knew how important it was to get the result and thankfully we did that.”
