Newcastle’s Alan Pardew praises former Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew says former Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye has been terrific since the window closed
Alan Pardew has praised Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye for knuckling down at the Magpies over the past week.
The France international was the subject of a £10m bid from Arsenal in August but the Magpies rejected the offer and the Gunners went on to sign Real Madrid’s Mesut Ozil.
Cabaye missed Newcastle’s opening games against Manchester City and West Ham United before making a substitute appearance in a 1-0 victory over Fulham.
The 27-year-old was left out of France’s squad for their World Cup qualifiers due to a lack of match practice, and Pardew praised the midfielder’s attitude over the past week.
“Yohan Cabaye stayed behind and has had a full week here,” Pardew told the Chronicle. “He’s been able to get a lot of work done. His wife has just had a baby too.
“Yohan has just got on with his work and settled down. He’s getting on with the job in hand. He’s been terrific and he’s just got his head down to get on with life.”
Pardew also confirmed Loic Remy, who joined Newcastle on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers, is looking sharp.
“Loic Remy has had a good week,” Pardew added.
