Ferdinand, Shaw & more: Twitter reacts as West Ham draw with Saints
Rio Ferdinand and Luke Shaw both tweet their thoughts after West Ham United secure a goalless draw at Southampton on Sunday

Jussi Jaaskelainen pulled off a flurry of top saves as West Ham United managed to secure a goalless draw with Southampton at St Mary’s on Sunday.
England international Rickie Lambert hit the crossbar in the second half before being denied by a full-stretch Jaaskelainen stop, with James Collins spurning a late chance to seal three points for the Hammers.
Here are our favourite tweets from the professionals, both past and present, which brought to life a dour stalemate.
Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand (@rioferdy5) is impressed by Southampton’s Luke Shaw: “Watching Southampton verus West Ham…. Great to see some young English talent on show. Want to see Ravel Morrison fulfil that huge potential… Every time I have seen Luke Shaw at this level, he has looked really comfortable. Good on the ball, takes the ball, quick & aggressive.”
England legend Gary Lineker (@GaryLineker) asks Ferdinand for his thoughts on his former United team-mate Ravel Morrison: “Rio, I sense he will realise his potential far quicker than Ravel Morrison?” > hearing Ravel is knuckling down, happy for him.”
Dietmar Hamann (@DietmarHamann) enjoys watching a different West Ham midfielder: “What a fine player Mark Noble is, lovely to watch.”
However, Republic of Ireland defender Darren O’Dea (@odea_darren ) sees the wily side of Noble: “Noble producing the old, make a foul but then kid on you’re injured so the referee feels sorry for you and doesn’t book you!”
Wigan goalkeeper Mike Pollitt (@MikePollitt12) points out the number of ex-Bolton stars who play for the Hammers: “There must be another ex-Bolton player West Ham can throw on…”
West Ham co-owner David Gold (@davidgold) is happy with a point: “Good away point, could have won. Good first start by Ravel, fans where great.”
Saints defender Shaw (@Luke_shaw3) gives an update on his fitness: “RT ‘@saintsfc93: @Luke_shaw3 how you feeling luke? Cramp or an injury?’ Cramp, no injury!”
Finally, more from Ferdinand: “Adnan & Pogba were not as good at youth team level as Ravel but by 18-years-old they had progressed further football-wise. Having all the ability alone is not enough. You need the right attitude & work ethic to go with it.”
