Swindon Town

Wes Foderingham Made some good saves and was unlucky not to keep out Chelsea’s first. Nothing he could have done about the second. 7/10

Nathan Thompson Defended well in difficult circumstances but was rightly booked for a late challenge on Essien in the second half. 6

Grant Hall Solid at the heart of the defence and not at blame for either goal. 6

Darren Ward Had a decent night when put under pressure against higher calibre opposition. 6

Jay McEvely Dealt with De Bruyne well throughout the game and made some good forward runs. 7

Yaser Kasim Sat deep in the midfield and started some good moves. Tested Schwarzer well. 6

Massimo Luongo Efficient with the ball but was a hard evening up against Essien. 5

Alex Pritchard Star man for Swindon. Saw lots of the ball and his passing and runs caused Chelsea lots of trouble. 8

Nicky Ajose Quiet performance from the former Manchester United man going forward. Didn’t track the run of Ramires for Cheslea’s second goal. 5

Nile Ranger Thankless task on his own upfront and cut a frustrated figure. Worked hard but picked up a knock and went off early at half time. 5

Dany N’Guessan Struggled to get involved in the first half but was much better in the second when playing through the middle. Only denied a goal by the offside flag. 6

Substitutes

Louis Thompson Some nice passes and some good build-up play from Swindon substitute but faded as second half went on. 5

Mohamed El-Gabbas N/A

Chelsea

Mark Schwarzer Shaky kicking in the first half but looked more assured as the game went on. 6

Cesar Azpilicueta A quiet untroubled evening for the Spanish international for the most part but picked up a booking for a daft foul on McEvely. 5

David Luiz Few trademark lapses of concentration but never too much of an issue. Tested Foderingham well from a free-kick. 5

Gary Cahill Very sloppy performance from the England man, lucky not to be punished as he gave the ball away in bad positions on more than one occasion. 5

Ryan Bertrand No huge issues defensively, didn’t get forward too much, a quiet evening. 5

Michael Essien Looked like the Essien of old, controlled the centre of the park for Chelsea and made some great driving runs. Thrived when allowed the freedom to get forward. 8

Marko Van Ginkel Subbed early on, little contribution N/A

Kevin De Bruyne Wasteful in possession but made a few good bursting runs. Relatively quiet on the whole, though. 6

Juan Mata Played some great balls in the first half for Torres to get on to and his shot led to the first goal. Faded in the second half. 6

Willian Made some good bursting runs and showed some classy touches but should have scored at least once in the second half. 6

Fernando Torres (Man of the match) An easy finish for the first goal and looked confident in possession making some great runs. Could have had a hat-trick. 8

Substitutes

Ramires Looke bright and played a great ball for Mata in the build up to the first goal. Great run and finish to grab a goal as well. Substituted injured at half-time. 7

John Terry Untroubled at the back alongside Cahill. 6

Demba Ba One good shot on goal, little other involvement. 5
