Tottenham boss AVB delivers update on Lennon and Capoue
Andre Villas-Boas gives an update on the fitness status of Aaron Lennon, Emmanuel Adebayor and Etienne Capoue
Andre Villas-Boas says Aaron Lennon is set to return to first-team training on Friday – but doesn’t expect Étienne Capoue to make a comeback until after October’s international break.
The 26-year-old England winger has almost completed his recovery from an injury which has kept the winger sidelined since the opening day of the Premier League season.
“He’s good to come back to training tomorrow,” said Villas-Boas at a pre-match media conference on Thursday.
“There was a possibility he could have come back today. But he’s making great progress and should return to first-team training next week.”
Elsewhere, Villas-Boas confirmed summer signing Capoue won’t return from an ankle injury until after October’s international break.
“Etienne will make his return one more week down the line,” he added.
“We will see him back after the international break in October and by then he will be ready to train with the first-team and ready for the games.”
Villas-Boas also revealed Emmanuel Adebayor hasn’t been training with the reserves this week due to illness – but should return to the first-team set-up next week.
“He hasn’t trained with the reserves because he has felt dizziness during the week and felt sick,” he said. “He’s due for first-team training on Monday.”
Villas-Boas also expressed his delight at Nacer Chadli’s performance in Tuesday’s 4-0 League Cup win at Villa Park, whilst revealing Younes Kaboul and Danny Rose still aren’t fully fit.
“Nacer Chadli has come back extremely strong in the games against Villa. Younes [Kaboul] is not 100 per cent so he is a doubt. Danny Rose is about 90 per cent – a possibility for him.”
