Jack Wilshere praised Mesut Özil’s defensive attributes after Arsenal moved back to the top of the league with a draw at West Bromwich Albion.

With the Gunners trailing from Claudio Yacob’s first-half opener, club-record signing Özil won back possession in Arsenal’s half in the lead-up to Wilshere’s equaliser in the 63rd minute.

And Wilshere was full of admiration for the Germany international following the 1-1 draw at The Hawthorns.

“I think when you watch him press you can tell that he’s played for a top team and he’s been taught how to defend properly,” Wilshere told Arsenal Player.

“I think you really notice that about him and hopefully we can learn off him on when to press and when not to. He’s been at a big club and he’s got that experience so he’s great for us.”

England international Wilshere also hailed Arsenal’s character after the Gunners game from behind to earn a point.

“People have said we’ve lacked that in the past few years but we gained last season where we had to win games and we’ve continued that this season,” he continued.

“We’ve added a few more top-quality players and we are starting to look good now. We have to get that winning mentality.”
