Steven Gerrard produced a captain’s goal as England booked their place in next summer’s World Cup in Brazil thanks to a 2-0 win against Poland.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney broke the deadlock in the 43rd minute before Three Lions skipper Gerrard was rewarded for a determined display as he netted the home side’s second on the stroke of full-time.
