Australia’s Michael Clarke set to miss India tour
Australia captain Michael Clarke is set to miss his country's tour to India ahead of the Ashes
Michael Clarke has been omitted from Australia’s ODI and T20 squad for the tour to India ahead of the Ashes this winter.
The 32-year-old led his side to a ODI triumph against Eoin Morgan’s men after the Aussies were comprehensively beaten 3-0 in this summer’s Ashes series in England.
Clarke has been suffering with a chronic back injury which requires careful management, and George Bailey has been handed the Australia captaincy in the absence of the batsman.
Australia physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said: “Michael Clarke has a long-standing low back injury that requires ongoing management.
“During the recent England ODI series his injury flared up again and has been slow to improve with his regular treatment regime.
“Michael will therefore not be available to play the upcoming India ODI series and will require a more extensive rehabilitation period before returning to competitive cricket.”
Australia start their bid to exact revenge on England in the return Ashes series in Brisbane on 21 November.
Australia one-day squad to face India: George Bailey (capt), Nathan Coulter-Nile, Xavier Doherty, James Faulkner, Callum Ferguson, Aaron Finch, Brad Haddin, Moises Henriques, Phil Hughes, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Clint McKay, Adam Voges, Shane Watson
