Tim Krul hailed a “massive win” for Newcastle United after Loic Remy fired the Magpies to victory at Cardiff City.

The France international, who is on a season-long loan from Queens Park Rangers, gave the visitors a first-half lead thanks to a mazy run and finish before a calmly doubling Newcastle’s lead in the 38th minute.

Cardiff City, who were 2-1 winners at Fulham last weekend, did mount a comeback of sorts as Peter Odemwingie scored his first Bluebirds goal but Alan Pardew’s men hung on to secure maximum points.

“It was a massive win,” Krul told BBC Sport.

“All week we have had pressure on us but we came out fighting and got three massive points.

“We’ve had to stick together because we’ve made some individual mistakes recently, but we’ve not been playing that badly.

“They put us under pressure but we defended well and created a lot of chances.”
