Jurgen Klopp has rejected speculation that Borussia Dortmund could make a January swoop for Chelsea midfielder Kevin De Bruyne.

The Belgium international’s future has been a source of speculation in recent weeks after falling out of favour under Blues boss José Mourinho.

The 22-year-old has started just two Premier League games for the west London club this season and has been linked with a return back to Werder Bremen, where he spent last season on loan, as well as Dortmund.

But Klopp insists that De Bruyne is not a target for last season’s Champions League runners-up and expects the midfielder to stay at Stamford Bridge.

“We have signed great players over the summer,” Klopp told Deutsche Presseagentur. “We have a squad we are very happy with.

“He [De Bruyne] is actually not one we are after. He is at Chelsea, and given the size and quality of the Chelsea first-team squad, it’s quite usual he may sometimes miss out on one or two matches.”

Speaking last week, Mourinho urged De Bruyne to work hard to win back his place at the west London club.

“Kevin has to work,” said Mourinho. “[He has] to come in my direction, I will go in his direction, too. He’s a very good player, his time will come.”
