Roy Hodgson’s men must beat Poland on Tuesday night to be certain of a place in the tournament after Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Andros Townsend and a Montenegro own goal helped the hosts seal three points.
Gerrard, a veteran of the World Cups in Germany and South Africa, believes the victory will give the Three Lions a “huge” boost ahead of their crunch Poland clash.
“The result against Montenegro will give us a huge lift and it’s good for confidence going into the final game,” Gerrard said.
“But the message is that the job’s half done. Poland are a very good team. They’re going to come and do us no favours, like Montenegro, try to make it really difficult for us.
“It’s important that we perform to the same level as on Friday night.”
Poland have the likes of Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski in their ranks, and Gerrard insists England will have to be on top form despite their opponents having nothing to play for.
“They’ll be coming to Wembley, they’ll want to beat England, they’ll want to be the team that stops us going to a World Cup,” he added.
“We won’t be thinking they’re going to take their foot off the gas.”
