Paul Lambert insisted he was pleased with a point after Aston Villa played out a goalless draw at Hull City.

Andreas Weimann twice fired wide when inside the penalty area for the visitors, but the Scot conceded that neither side did enough to merit a win.

“We had no doubts from the start that this was going to be tough and a point away from home anywhere in this league is something very valuable,” said Lambert.

“I don’t think either side did enough to win the game.

“I couldn’t fault the lads for work-rate and trying to do the right things. We just didn’t have that cutting edge that we normally have.”

The draw leaves Villa in ninth place in the Premier League table, one point behind Steve Bruce’s Hull City side.

And manager Bruce felt his side were worthy of a point too after a flat encounter at the KC Stadium.

“We deserved a point,” said Bruce. “Two of three or four of our players were not playing at the level they have been and that was reflected in the result. But there was still desire and spirit. We’ll take the draw and we’ll move on.”
