John Aldridge tips Liverpool’s Luis Suárez to get ‘even better’

John Aldridge insists he never had any doubts Liverpool striker Luis Suárez would impress on his return from suspension.

The 26-year-old scored twice in a 3-1 win against Sunderland on Sunday as he started his first Premier League game since receiving a 10-game ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last season.

Suárez, who scored 23 top-flight goals last term, was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield in the summer transfer window as Arsenal failed with two bids for the forward.

But Aldridge isn’t surprised by Suárez’s goal-scoring return – and is delighted to see the Uruguayan rekindle his understanding with Daniel Sturridge.

“I never had any doubts at all that Luis Suarez would hit the ground running on his return to the Liverpool first team,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo.

“He’s played a couple of internationals for Uruguay in the past month, there were a number of behind closed doors organised to help keep him sharp – and he’s the type of lad who always gives absolutely everything to his training sessions.

“But the bad news for Premier League defenders is that he is only going to get even better as his match sharpness improves.

“The partnership with Sturridge – the SAS some people are already calling it – looks good, but just needs a little more work.

“When one player, usually Suarez, drops off, the other has to be tight on the shoulder of the last defender. But that will come. Luis Suarez’s return will be a major boost for the coming games.”
