Leinster back row Sean O’Brien set to return for Munster clash

Leinster back rown Sean O'Brien is set to make his return to action against Munster this weekend

Sean O’Brien is set to make his first appearance of the season when Leinster face Irish rivals Munster this Saturday.

O’Brien, 26, has amassed 27 caps for his country, including 15 appearances in the Six Nations and this summer he helped the British & Irish Lions to a first series win in 16 years.

He started the third and final Test – the series decider in Sydney – helping the Lions to a famous 41-16 win but shortly after he underwent surgery on his thumb.

As a result he is yet to feature for Leinster this season but team manager Guy Easterby hopes that is about to change on Saturday at Thomond Park.

“We’re very hopeful Sean will be back on deck for Saturday’s game. We are in a healthy position after the weekend, which is a real bonus,” Easterby told the Belfast Telegraph.

“We made 11 changes to the team for Friday’s game and we had five or six guys starting for the first time this season.

“To come through that unscathed is a real positive, especially with what we have lying ahead.”
