Wayne Rooney is feeling “relaxed” at Manchester United and is set to stay at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future, according to Rafael Da Silva.

The 27-year-old forward’s situation was a source of relentless speculation over the summer after Sir Alex Ferguson claimed that the striker had asked to leave the club towards the end of last season.

Chelsea had two bids for the England international turned down by the Red Devils, while Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal were both credited with an interest in the player.

But a move failed to materialise, and after a string of impressive performances this season, Rafael expects Rooney to stay at United for many more years.

“There was too much talk about Rooney leaving. He was always silent about it. Now he is very relaxed,” Rafael said.

“He belongs to Manchester United. He has been here for so long now, [for] almost a decade.

“The fans love him and I think he will stay here for a long time.”
