Mesut Ozil injury: Concern for Arsenal as Germany star limps off
Concern for Arsenal as Mesut Özil is substituted with an apparent knee injury suffered in Germany's win over Sweden
There was concern amongst Arsenal fans on Tuesday night after club-record signing Mesut Ozil was substituted with an apparent knee injury late on in Germany’s 5-3 victory over Sweden.
Ozil picked up the problem in a clash with less than 10 minutes of the World Cup qualifier remaining and was replaced by Julian Draxler.
The playmaker, who turned 25 on Tuesday, went straight down the tunnel for treatment, with initial reports in the German media suggesting he had suffered some sort of knee problem.
Earlier in the game, Ozil and Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle had helped to inspire a comeback against the Swedes after Germany found themselves two goals behind their opponents.
Ozil rifled a shot home on the stroke of half-time and also provided the assist for Mario Gotze’s 53rd minute equaliser.
The Germany international has made three assists in four Premier League games since arriving at Arsenal, as well as a goal and an assist in two Champions League appearances.
