Sami Khedira has backed his former Real Madrid team-mate Mesut Özil to fire Arsenal to the Premier League title.

The Germany international has taken little time to win over the Gunners supporters following his club-record £42.5m switch to The Emirates from Los Blancos on transfer deadline day.

The 24-year-old has already made four assists in three Premier League appearances, whilst Özil netted his first Arsenal goal in a 2-0 win against Napoli on Tuesday night.

And Khedira, who moved to Madrid at the same time as his compatriot in 2010, hailed his German team-mate’s talent and backed the playmaker to lead Arsenal to silverware.

“Arsenal had a strong team anyway, but Mesut makes them the best team in England,” Khedira is quoted as saying in the Mirror.

“I am sure he can be the player that makes things happen for them and win them the championship.

“Mesut is a genius on the field, there is no other way to describe him. He is already playing amazing football for Arsenal and he hasn’t even got used to the Premier League yet.”
