Jose Mourinho confidently declared that Chelsea will qualify for the Champions League knockout stage after an emphatic win at Steaua Bucharest.

Brazil international Ramires gave Chelsea an early lead before Steaua defender Daniel Georgievski put the ball into his own net to double the away side’s lead.

Ramires, who was part of Chelsea’s Champions League winning side in 2012, added a third midway through the second half before Frank Lampard struck on the stroke of full-time.

Chelsea’s win leaves Mourinho’s men in second place level with Basel, who won at Stamford Bridge on matchday one, while Schalke are three points clear at the top of Group E.

“I’m very satisfied. The result is very good – the points but also the goals which we may need,” Mourinho told Sky Sports.

“We played good football with maturity away from home in the Champions League.

“We need to make clean what we did at home [against Basel]. We did it with a good result and a good performance.

“We have three points in two matches. But we are not in traumatic situation. We are in a close situation.”

He added: “Basel lost and are on the same points as us. Schalke have the advantage and we’ve got a double fixture against them then we go to Basel and we finish the competition playing against Steaua at home.

“I think we are going to qualify. If we didn’t win tonight, we would have been under pressure.

“But with his result, confidence comes. In this moment, we have to control the situation and get some points against Schalke and beat Basel and Steaua to qualify.”
