André Villas-Boas has confirmed that Aaron Lennon will miss Sunday’s clash against West Ham, with the winger set to return from injury after the forthcoming international break.

Lennon has not featured for the north London side since their opening-day victory over Crystal Palace due to a foot problem, but the England international returned to full training this week.

“Aaron was back training with the team on Monday,” said Villas-Boas.

“He will be regaining his fitness with the team and we look to have him back in contention for a first-team place after the international break.”

Villas-Boas also confirmed that striker Emmanuel Adebayor will miss Sunday’s London derby due to a lack of fitness, although the Togo striker also trained with the first team this week.

“Ade has just come back to training with the first team,” Villas-Boas continued. “We travelled on Tuesday so we haven’t trained with him.

“He definitely won’t be involved against West Ham, so hopefully within this next international break we can build him up to start competing again for his place in the team.”
