André Villas-Boas has warned his Tottenham side to expect a stern test when they come up against London rivals West Ham United on Sunday.

Spurs host the Hammers looking to return to winning ways in the league following last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Sam Allardyce’s side have won just one game this season and head into Sunday’s clash after stumbling to back-to-back defeats.

But Villas-Boas, whose Spurs team trail early pace-setters Arsenal by two points, is expecting a difficult test against the east London side.

“They are still a very objective and aggressive team. They are very direct and we know what to expect against them,” said Villas-Boas.

“We will have to be alert at set plays, crosses into the box and make the play very, very strong.

“We were successful against them last season, winning home and away, and we are highly motivated for the game against West Ham.”

The Portuguese coach added: “A London derby is always difficult, so it will be an extremely difficult match.”
