Wales star Ryan Jones in the mix for Ospreys return

Former Wales skipper Ryan Jones is set to make his return to competitive action for Ospreys this weekend

Ryan Jones could make just his second competitive appearance of the season on Saturday’s as the Ospreys take on Leinster in the Heineken Cup.

The former Wales skipper, part of a select group to have won three Six Nations Grand Slams, has been forced to watch from the sidelines this season after suffering a series of injuries.

The 32-year-old’s only game time so far this campaign was 48 minutes against Treviso in the Pro12, but he has returned to training after a calf injury and could feature in the game at the Liberty Stadium.

The Ospreys lost in their last outing to PRO12 rivals Ulster, and assistant coach Gruff Rees is well aware of the impact the former British & Irish Lion, who has captained his country more than any other player, could have.

“He’s a talisman, he’s got that aura, and especially after last weekend he’s got that calmness about him,” said Rees.

“He comes in and does his job the right way but also affects other people in the right way, and perhaps we didn’t have that on the pitch at certain times last weekend.

“He was semi-involved with the session today he did a lot of the unit based stuff, and some of the skill-based drills.

“He was pulled away by the physios but I’d hope for the full training day off him tomorrow and touch wood we can get him in the mix for this weekend.”
