Aaron Ramsey is determined to help Arsenal continue their impressive start to the season into the new year and build a platform for winning silverware.

The Gunners are currently four points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 12 games, and also lead their Champions League group heading into Tuesday’s clash against Marseille.

And the Wales international, who has been one of the north Londoners’ standout performers so far this term, is confident Arsene Wenger’s men can continue their good form.

“We are always hungry to win things and to win games. It is no different this season,” said Ramsey, who has scored 11 goals this season.

“In the last few seasons we have suffered from getting off to bad starts and having to play catch up.

“Now we have put ourselves in a fantastic opportunity early on so hopefully we can continue that over the Christmas period because we know our form after Christmas has been second to none over the last few seasons.

“Hopefully we can put ourselves in that position where we are there or thereabouts because we know we are confident enough after that.”

Arsenal v Marseille: Pre-match facts

• It is the third successive season that Arsenal have faced Ligue 1 opponents in the Champions League. A year ago on matchday five they beat Montpellier 2-0 to register their first win in the competition at home to Ligue 1 sides.

• In the four previous Champions League games Arsenal had lost two and drawn two, although their overall home record against French visitors is W4 D3 L2.

• Marseille have only recorded one victory in 11 visits to England, beating Liverpool 1-0 in the 2007-08 Champions League group stage. They have lost six of the other 10 games.

• Mathieu Flamini began his career at Marseille making his senior debut in December 2003. At the end of that season he joined Arsenal for the first time.
