Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta: Penalty miss won’t affect Mesut Ozil
Arsenal midfielder Mikel Arteta doesn't expect Mesut Ozil to be affected by his penalty miss in a 2-0 victory over Marseille
Mikel Arteta doesn’t expect Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil to be affected by his penalty miss against Marseille on Wednesday night.
The Germany international failed to beat Marseille goalkeeper Steve Mandanda from the spot eight minutes before half-time at The Emirates.
Arsenal went on to secure a comfortable 2-0 victory courtesy of Jack Wilshere’s two strikes either side of the interval, leaving the Gunners top of Group F.
And Arsenal midfielder Arteta wants Arsenal to focus on a “tough” assignment against Cardiff City this weekend – the Bluebirds held Manchester United to a 2-2 draw on Sunday.
“Penalties are very decisive moments,” Arteta told Arsenal’s website. “Only a detail makes it go in or out. I don’t think it’s about confidence.
“We start thinking about Saturday now and we have time to prepare for the game in Napoli. But we have to enjoy it because we have 12 points now and [progress] is dependent on us.
“Cardiff will be very tough. That’s why we need to get back and prepare well for Saturday to make sure we get the points again.”
