Ashes 2013-14: England’s Matt Prior doubt for first Test
Ashes 2013-14: Matt Prior reveals he isn't fit to play in England's final warm-up match ahead of the first Test on 21 November
Matt Prior has been ruled about of England’s final warm-up game against New South Wales XI after picking up a calf tear during the draw with Australia A.
The 31-year-old wicket-keeper will be replaced by Jonny Bairstow as the 72-cap veteran aims to make a full recovery ahead of the opening Ashes Test at Brisbane on 21 November.
Obviously very disappointed to be missing the game at SCG but doing everything possible to be ready for the 1st Test at the Gabba! #ashes

Meanwhile, England head coach Andy Flower played down concerns over Kevin Pietersen’s ongoing knee problem after the batsman was ousted for just eight against Australia A.
Pietersen had an injection to help manage the injury which forced him out of back-to-back series against New Zealand and the Champions Trophy earlier this year and is expected to be available for Wednesday’s final warm-up match.
“I don’t think it’s going to be a huge issue,” Flower said. “He’s had a couple of these injections before, and they’ve been successful [and] quietened the problem down.
“It’s obviously an ongoing issue for him but we anticipate this one being successful and anticipate him playing a full part in the Ashes tour.”
