Ashes 2013-14: Peter Siddle hopes to spoil Kevin Pietersen 100-Test party
Ashes 2013-14: Australia bowler Peter Siddle says he hopes to spoil Kevin Pietersen's 100-Test party at the Gabba
Peter Siddle has outlined his plans to ruin Kevin Pietersen’s 100th England Test appearance at the Gabba this week.
The 33-year-old batsman, who is managing a long-term knee injury, will join the likes of Andrew Strauss, Mike Atherton and Alec Stewart in England’s exclusive 100-club.
But Australia bowler Siddle hopes to dismiss Pietersen for the eighth time in 13 Tests and ruin the Englishman’s celebration when the first Test starts on Thursday.
“That’s the plan,” said Siddle. “It’d be nice to have wrecked it before then … we’ll see how we go.”
“It’s always a tough contest to play against him, a challenge.
“It’s good fun … I’ve bowled all right against him, the last couple of times.
“(We want to) keep building that pressure, and try to make it a not very memorable last series for him – if it is his end.”
Meanwhile, Aussie batsman Steve Smith admitted the hosts must be cautious when it comes to facing Chris Tredwell, who excelled in Australia in 2011.
“He obviously did a very good job for them the last time they were out here,” said Smith. “He is definitely one we have to be wary of with his extra
height and extra bounce.
“Their bowling attack is strong, all of them are experienced and we will have to bat well against them.”
