Brendan Rodgers wants perfection with Plan A, says Steven Gerrard
Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard heaps praise on "wonderful" Brendan Rodgers and praises the manager's quest for perfection
Steven Gerrard hails “wonderful” Brendan Rodgers and backs the manager’s quest for perfection at Liverpool.
The Reds boss has attempted to leave his own imprint on the 18-time English champions since replacing Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish at the Anfield helm in May 2012.
After a testing first season under Rodgers, the Reds have turned a corner following an excellent start to the campaign which sees second-placed Liverpool trail leaders Arsenal by two points.
And Gerrard backed his manager’s footballing philosophy.
“It’s a huge job at Liverpool – it’s a huge club – and he came in with little experience, but I think he has done a wonderful job,” Gerrard told ESPN.
“Most important, he has changed the way we play … to pass the ball out of the back. He doesn’t have a Plan B. Unlike previous managers, Brendan wants perfection with Plan A.”
Liverpool travel to their neighbours and top-four rivals Everton in Saturday’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.
And the Reds captain feels Rodgers’ men are ahead of schedule in their bid to secure a spot in next season’s Champions League.
“We’re slightly ahead of where we thought we’d be, but it’s a tough league and there’s six or seven teams capable of finishing in the top four… so there’s [going to be] a huge fight,” he added.
“But the confidence and belief are definitely there.”
