Carlo Ancelotti: I prefer Angel Di Maria to Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti says he is happy to have Angel di Maria in his side as opposed to Gunners star Mesut Ozil
Carlo Ancelotti has revealed Mesut Ozil told the Real Madrid manager that he was “off” when the Italian failed to guarantee the midfielder a regular starting spot.
The 24-year-old playmaker has scored three goals and made five assists in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners following a club-record £42.5m move to north London on deadline day.
Despite Ozil being one of Madrid’s top performing players since arriving in 2010, Los Blancos boss Ancelotti allowed the Germany international to move to a Champions League rival.
But the former Chelsea boss insisted he made the right decision and appeared to criticise Ozil’s team spirit, adding Angel Di Maria is better for dressing room dynamics.
“Ozil wasn’t comfortable. I knew he’d been speaking with another club because he wanted to leave,” Ancelotti is quoted as saying by Daily Mail.
“Mesut understood that he had competition, that he wouldn’t be able to play every game – and ‘I’m off’ was his answer.
“I prefer to have Angel Di Maria for the team’s balance. Di Maria is better than Ozil for group dynamics.”
