Jack Wilshere has hailed Wojciech Szczesny as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League after the Arsenal shot-stopper signed a new long-term contract on Saturday.

The Gunners announced that they had tied down the Poland international to a new deal on Saturday morning, and Wilshere was quick to praise his club team-mate on Twitter.

Wilshere tweeted: “Top 3 keepers in the Premiership? I’m going with 1.Sczcesny. (sic) 2. Hart. 3. De Gea. Opinions please? I was stuck on number 3!!”

The Arsenal midfielder then added: “Tough one to be fair as the standard of Goalkeepers in the prem is very, very high! But for me Szczesny is number 1, and still so young..”

Szczesny had earlier expressed his delight at penning his new deal on Saturday.

“I’ve been at this club for over seven years now and I’d just like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support towards me during my time here,” said the Poland international.

“Many people have given me amazing support since I arrived as a boy, people like Tony Roberts, who helped my development as a player from a young age.

“I’m so proud to be an Arsenal player and am looking forward to helping our club towards success in the years to come.”
