Liverpool’s Luis Suárez happier than ever, insists Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says Luis Suárez is happier than he has ever been at the Reds after a strong start to the season
Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Luis Suarez is happier than he has ever been at Liverpool after the club’s strong start to the season.
The Reds rejected a bid from Arsenal for the Uruguayan during the summer transfer after the forward expressed his desire to leave Anfield and join a club playing in the Champions League.
In August, Suarez put the speculation to bed by committing his future to the Reds, and the 26-year-old has scored six goals in five Premier League appearances since returning from a 10-match ban.
Suarez has played down reports linking him with a move to Real Madrid earlier this week, and Rodgers reckons the striker has been encouraged by Liverpool’s impressive performances.
“Speaking to Luis over the last couple of days, he’s as happy as he’s ever been at the club,” Rodgers told a media conference ahead of Liverpool’s clash against Fulham on Saturday.
“He recognises that we have a real genuine chance this year. Last year was transition.
“He had a difficult summer but he’s come back and is more mature and his performance level has been really high.
“I think he sees a genuine chance for us to make that [top four]. He’s very happy here.”
The Reds boss added: “Also from the club perspective, we made a stance last summer – not only for Luis but every player; If there’s a time to sell a player we’ll do that, if not, then we won’t.”
