Liverpool’s Simon Mignolet is top-class, says Daniel Sturridge
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge hails "top-class" Reds shot stopper Simon Mignolet after his performance in the derby
Daniel Sturridge has hailed Simon Mignolet as a “top-class” goalkeeper after the Belgian’s performance in the Merseyside derby.
The Reds shot stopper made a total of nine saves to prevent Everton adding to their goal tally in a thrilling 3-3 draw with Liverpool at Goodison Park on Saturday.
Mignolet joined the Reds in a £9m move in the summer transfer window, and Sturridge has been impressed by the 25-year-old goalkeeper’s impact at Anfield.
“Simon is a top class goalkeeper,” Sturridge is quoted as saying by Liverpool Echo.
“At the start of the season everyone saw what he was all about with that penalty save against Stoke City.
“He set himself a standard. It’s difficult as a keeper to be unbelievable in every game. But Simon is an unbelievable guy on and off the field and we’re so happy to have him here.”
On derby debutant Jon Flanagan, Sturridge added: “I thought Jon Flanagan was man of the match against Everton and everyone was so happy for him.
“He works tirelessly every day in training. He’s a top class lad off the field. I love the guy. He’s been patient waiting for his opportunity and he has taken his chance.
“There is so much talent running through this team. It’s not about individuals, it’s about Liverpool Football Club and it’s great to be part of it.”
