Liverpool transfers: ‘Brendan Rodgers needs back-up for SAS’
Liverpool transfers: Brendan Rodgers should sign cover for Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez in January, according to Mark Lawrenson
Mark Lawrenson believes Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers should look to sign cover for Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez in January.
The Reds duo have been in prolific form for second-placed Liverpool this season, with the pair both top of the Premier League goal-scoring charts on eight strikes alongside Sergio Aguero.
Sturridge has been nursing an injury in recent weeks which kept the 23-year-old out of England’s 2-0 loss to Chile on Friday, although the forward is set to return for the friendly against Germany.
But former Liverpool defender Lawrenson feels Rodgers should look to buy cover for his strike partnership, dubbed SAS.
“Rodgers is well off in central defence and, while there have been question marks over the strength in depth at full-back, Jose Enrique and Glen Johnson are unlikely to be usurped as first-choice for this season at least,” Lawrenson wrote in his Liverpool Daily Post column.
“Instead, I’d imagine the incomings would be further upfield.
“One position would be striker. That seems stupid given how well Luis Suarez and Sturridge are playing, but if one of them picks up an injury then it could be a problem.
“Iago Aspas hasn’t quite cut it yet and, other than the Spaniard, there are few other options in attack.”
