Brendan Rodgers says he has never with anyone that possesses Luis Suarez’s “will and strength of desire” to play football.

The 26-year-old forward is expected to be in Liverpool’s starting line-up for their clash against Everton on Saturday despite travelling over 7,000 miles during the past week.

The Reds forward played in both of Uruguay’s World Cup play-offs against New Zealand during the international break, helping his country book their place in next summer’s tournament courtesy of a 5-0 aggregate win.

And Rodgers feels Suarez, who has scored eight goals in six top-flight games since returning from a 10-game ban, will be ready for the high-octane Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

“I can honestly say I’ve never worked with anyone with the will and strength of desire to actually play football that Luis,” Rodgers said.

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some outstanding players, character-wise very strong ones, but I’d say no-one is stronger than him mentally.

“He’s so tough, it’s his love of football, he loves playing and training.”
