Daniel Sturridge has hailed Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard as a “great” role model.

The 23-year-old striker, who joined from Chelsea in January, has enjoyed an impressive start to the season after scoring eight goals in 11 Premier League games.

The England international admitted he still looks up to the Three Lions and Reds skipper.

“He is a legend,” Sturridge told Liverpool’s website.

“He is a great man on and off the pitch too. He leads by example and he is someone I look up to. I am happy for him and his family.

“He deserves everything he gets because he works hard and he is someone everybody looks up to.

“He is a leader and the captain of the boys. He is an example for the youth coming up now and he is somebody I look up to still.”
