Luke Shaw has challenged Southampton to lay down a marker for the rest of the Premier League season by picking up points at Arsenal and Chelsea in the coming weeks.

The high-flying Saints travel to Emirates Stadium after the international break before making the trip to Stamford Bridge on 1 December.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently third in the Premier League table and just three points behind league leaders Arsenal after a sparkling start to the season.

And full-back Shaw is hoping that Southampton can keep up their impressive run by taking points away from their consecutive trips to London.

“The next two games we have got coming up will show whereabouts we are and whether we can challenge for the top,” Shaw said.

“If you take points from there, you know you are doing well. It is two of the biggest clubs in the league and hopefully we are going to go there positive to pick up points.”
