Harry Redknapp says Julio Cesar can leave Queens Park Rangers on a free transfer this January.

The Brazil international hasn’t featured for the Hoops in the Championship after failing to seal a move away from Loftus Road during the summer transfer window.

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has been linked with a move for Cesar as the Citizens boss looks to secure further competition for struggling Joe Hart.

And QPR manager Redknapp, who took charge of the Hoops in November 2012, insisted he wouldn’t block the South American leaving the club – even if it was for nothing.

“He needs to play and I feel he’s a player who could play for any team in the world,” Redknapp is quoted as saying by West London Sport.

“We wouldn’t stand in his way. It wasn’t that we were asking for a fee for him. We weren’t, we’d let him go on a free.”

Cesar made 26 appearances for the west London side in the 2012/13 campaign after sealing a move to QPR from Inter Milan last summer.
