Wayne Rooney is confident he will be able to continue his impressive start to the season and help Manchester United defend their Premier League title.

The 28-year-old forward has been one of the Red Devils’ standout performers despite his side’s stuttering start to life under David Moyes at Old Trafford.

Rooney has scored seven goals and made six assists so far, including setting up Robin van Persie for United’s winner against Arsenal on Sunday.

And the striker is determined to continue his good form and help Moyes’ men climb the Premier League table.

“I’ve said all along that I just want to play football and I feel I’ve started the season well and scored a few goals and I’m creating chances for my team-mates too,” Rooney told United Review.

“I’m enjoying that and I want to put all my focus on trying to help the team get back towards the top of the table.

“That’s the aim for us all and if I can contribute to that then it’d be great.”
