Newcastle United

Tim Krul He was helpless for Brunt’s clinical finish but did everything asked of him on an otherwise quiet night for the Newcastle stopper. 5/10

Mathieu Debuchy Bombed up the right flank every chance he could and gave Alan Pardew’s side another dimension all afternoon. 6

Mike Williamson Another sturdy performance whilst looking fairly composed on the ball at the back and made a vital clearance late on from an Albion cross. 5

Fabricio Coloccini The Argentinian was not as commanding as usual but the defender still made some key interceptions as speculation about his future continues. 5

Davide Santon Like Debuchy, the Italian got forward at every opportunity and put in a teasing cross in the first half before making a key interception to stop Amalfitano surging into the Newcastle half. 6

Moussa Sissoko A truly wonderful strike from outside the box for the winner on an afternoon where the Frenchman put his mark in midfield. 7

Cheick Tiote Despite his energetic performance, he was not as influential as usual and was sloppy on occasions. 5

Yohan Cabaye Came close a number of times and was as composed as ever on the ball making it difficult for the visitors. 6

Yoan Gouffran Started fairly quietly but showed his strength to leap and head home to put Newcastle 1-0 up and continue his scoring form. 6

Shola Ameobi (Man of the match) Match-winning performance as the striker showed intelligence and worked well off the ball, particularly for Gouffran’s opener as he made the run across goal to put Myhill off. 7

Loic Remy Disappointing afternoon in front of a goal but was unlucky not to win a penalty and played a neat header into the path of Sissoko for his goal. 5

Substitutes

Vurnon Anita Showed drive to get involved but did not get the ball enough after coming on for Remy. 5

West Bromwich Albion

Boaz Myhill Could have been more commanding from Newcastle’s corner for the opener but was helpless for Sissoko’s winner. 5

Billy Jones Did well and got up the field more in the second half as Steve Clarke’s men looked to attack more. 5

Gareth McAuley Probably West Brom’s best performer at the back and did his best to halt Newcastle with a couple of blocks. 5

Jonas Olsson Looked uncomfortable all afternoon and was lucky to be on the pitch after bringing down Remy. 4

Liam Ridgewell Very quiet and did not assert his authority on the game. 5

James Morrison Like Ridgewell, he was far too quiet on an afternoon where his side needed his influence on the game. 5

Youssouf Mulumbu Had a couple of opportunities in front of a goal after getting into good positions but did not have the finish needed. 5

Morgan Amalfitano The Frenchman made some good runs and played some testing crosses into the box but faded out of the game. 6

Stephane Sessegnon Made some great runs and got on the end of Long’s passes but struggled to unleash the trigger too many times. 5

Chris Brunt Superb strike to bring the Baggies back into the game after unleashing a left-footed strike into the roof of the net but was wasteful on three other occasions in the match. 6

Shane Long Showed his brilliant control and elegant flick-ons once again but could have done with more support up top. 6

Substitutes

Saido Berahino Managed to have an attempt at goal after being introduced but saw his shot blocked. 5
