Santi Cazorla has revealed his disappointment at Arsenal’s failure to sign Luis Suarez over the summer, hailing the Liverpool striker as an “incredible” talent.

The Gunners had at least one official bid for the Uruguay striker turned down by the Reds as Arsene Wenger looked to bolster his strikeforce during the off-season.

Despite the 26-year-old’s public plea for a transfer away from Anfield, Liverpool stood firm and refused to sell their prized asset, who has already scored eight goals in six games this season.

And Arsenal playmaker Cazorla admits he would have loved to link up with Suarez at Arsenal.

“Suárez’s incredible,” Cazorla told the Guardian. “I’d have loved it if he had come; his style would have suited us.

“Arsenal did all they could and he wouldn’t have minded. But Liverpool didn’t want to sell, which they’re entirely entitled to do, and he’s playing incredibly again.

“It’s a pity he’s not on our team! [Arsenal] saw some doors shut and, when they saw the chance to get Mesut [Ozil], it was an opportunity to thump a fist on the desk, to make a statement. He’s a superb signing.”
