Tottenham Hotspur have been handed an injury boost after a scan revealed that Christian Eriksen’s ankle problem isn’t as serious as first feared.

The 21-year-old lasted just 40 minutes of Denmark’s friendly against neighbours Norway as the hosts secured a 2-1 win at the MCH Arena on Friday night.

After the victory, Denmark manager Martin Olsen suggested that Tottenham’s summer signing could be sidelined for up to six weeks.

However, following a scan, Spurs have confirmed that the playmaker has only sprained ankle ligaments and should make a relatively swift recovery.

“After an MRI scan it’s been determined that Christian Eriksen suffered a sprain of the lateral ankle ligaments playing for Denmark on Friday,” a Spurs statement read.

“Christian’s scan showed no sign of ruptured ligaments which will result in a shorter period of recovery for the attacking midfielder.”

The Dane has scored one goal in 12 appearances in all competitions for the north London side after completing an £11.5m move to White Hart Lane in the summer.

Eriksen scored 32 strikes in 162 games for Eredivisie champions Ajax during a five-year spell in Amsterdam.
