Andros Townsend says he is focused on maintaining his Tottenham Hotspur form ahead of next summer’s World Cup.

The 22-year-old has earned four caps in recent months after the Spurs wingers made an impressive start to the Premier League campaign.

But Townsend, who scored against Montenegro, admitted he can’t afford to rest on his laurels and must continue his excellent form ahead of next summer’s tournament.

“I have had a good start to my international career, but I think it is too soon to start talking about Brazil,” Townsend told Sky Sports News.

“We have got six/seven months of club form now, I have got to keep playing well for my club for six months then hopefully I can secure my place on the plane.”

Townsend also insists that despite losing, England have reasons to be positive despite a disappointing international break.

He added: “It was good for us to test ourselves against one of the best nations in Germany.

“One of the favourites for the World Cup, obviously we didn’t get the result we wanted but it was a good positive performance and we will definitely build on it.”
